About Me

Lynne Tapper

I am a lifelong endurance athlete with the dual goal of training and racing until my bones turn to dust and sharing that passion with as many people as possible.

I woke up to a beautiful sunny day in Manhattan and by Noon I was back in what looks like a war-torn West Hartford.  Thankfully the weather is warm and power is being restored, slowly but surely.  We were informed that we had power last night (Sunday) only to wake up to a text from our neighbor that a fuse blew and we were “off the grid” once again.

At my urging, we packed up and headed for home, anyway.  By the time we got home, a CL&P truck was fixing our fuse and with 30 minutes we are back in business.

I’m trying to stay positive and focus on what I CAN do and not on what I CANNOT do.  Not an easy task for me. After a little lunch prepared for me by my daughter (yes, they still do not have school), I went for a walk with my mother and Janice (and her dog Kobe).  We enjoyed the sunshine warmth and assessed the damage to our street. I was talking so much that I didn’t have a chance to focus on any pain.  That’s a good thing.

Now I’m off to get my hair washed.  My hairdresser offered to wash my hair so I could at least look good, even if I didn’t feel good.  That’s progress.

On the physical and emotional side, it’s been a roller coaster (Editor Leland: not the fun kind). At unpredictable times during the day, I’m really queasy. And I’m not sure why. I stopped taking Vicodin on Saturday and I’m only taking the occasional Tylenol for pain as well as an antibiotic (prescribed by the plastic surgeon for the implants) and Compazine for the nausea (somewhat effective).  It’s possible that antibiotic is causing the nausea, who knows.

So, the nausea and the fact that it feels like I have 1000 pounds sitting on my chest are not a great recipe for feeling good.

As my friend Marji says, “One 1/2 day at a time.”
