I know this might sound like a morbid title for this week’s post. But I just went hiking with some friends and family at Purgatory Chasm in Sutton, MA. There was this massive boulder with a giant fissure that provided a very narrow walk space. (Thankfully I waited to have a cookie until after traveling through). It was cold and dark. But after walking through, you came into an open area filled with the light shining from above.
This physical experience got me thinking. One could look at my situation, finding out that I’m BRCA+ with a high risk for cancer and choosing to undergo this prophylactic surgery, as kind of a bummer. I know I’ve had moments like that over the past eight years.
But one of the heartwarming highlights for me has been the incredibly touching outpouring of genuine care and affection I’ve received from so many different personal connections in my life. Friends, family, training partners, new and old acquaintances have all reached out in some fashion to offer a kind word or their assistance. Just yesterday, two of our friends, separately, asked Leland directly about how HE was doing. We are truly touched by the support and love we feel.
So, next time you feel like you’re in between a rock and a rock, remember that the love and support of your friends and family can never be taken for granite!
